FAQ

Hockey IQ Coaching: Common Questions

Common questions.

What exactly is Hockey IQ coaching?

Hockey IQ coaching is virtual coaching built on breaking down your own game film. You share footage from your games and a coach reviews it with you live, 1:1 - showing you the patterns, the pressure and the positioning behind every shift. Instead of training your hands with drills, we train your decisions. Every session is scored on our Hockey IQ Matrix, so progress is measured - not guessed.

Who is Hockey IQ training for?

Male and female players, from youth and minor programs through junior hockey - plus full teams. If you can get game footage, we can coach you, anywhere in the world.

How do virtual sessions actually work?

Sessions run live on Zoom. Your coach screen-shares your shifts, pauses at the key moments and walks through what elite players would see and do. You talk through the reads together - it's interactive, not a lecture.

Where does the game footage come from?

LiveBarn, Hudl/InStat, TPE, association streams, or even a phone recording from the stands. Most rinks in North America are covered by LiveBarn - if you're not sure what's available for your team, we'll help you figure it out.

What is the ReactView Player Hub?

Through our ReactForge partnership, every HockeyIQ4U player gets a ReactView Player Profile - a personal hub where clip packages, voiceover coaching, on-screen annotations and session summaries live. Coaches can also share access to 8,000+ NHL goals and plays for side-by-side comparison with your own shifts.

What's an async Shift Review?

A personalized, recorded breakdown of your own shifts with voiceover and annotations: what you did well, what to improve and your focus points for the next game - scored on the Hockey IQ Matrix. No scheduling required - share footage after any game and rewatch the review as many times as you want.

Do you offer session packs?

Yes - film reviews and live sessions are available in packs of 5, 10 (+1 free) and 20 (+3 free). Live sessions are valued at $129 and film reviews at $89 - bigger packs add free sessions rather than discounts. Packs are one-time purchases, valid for 12 months and shareable between siblings - perfect for a review after every game, or one every two weeks across the season.

What happens in the free trial session?

A real, full 45-minute 1:1 session on Zoom - not a sales call. We break down shifts from your own games, give you a Hockey IQ Matrix baseline score and recommend the right program. No pressure, no commitment.

How quickly will we see results?

Most players show measurable changes in decision-making within the first month, because we're fixing reads and habits - not rebuilding technique. Production follows: our case studies show the data-backed improvement, game by game, over a full season.

How do scheduling and payments work?

Sessions are booked through Calendly - you pick a time that works and get automatic confirmations and reminders. Payments are handled securely through Stripe and your film and progress live in your ReactView Player Hub. No phone tag, no e-transfers, no spreadsheets.

What currency do you bill in and can we cancel?

Prices are shown in USD; Canadian clients are billed in CAD at the equivalent rate. Monthly programs can be cancelled anytime, and session packs are one-time purchases.

Do you work with teams?

Yes - HockeyIQ4U runs full-team analysis programs alongside individual coaching. See the Oakville Rangers case study for how team sessions correlated with win rate across a season.

My player already does skills training. Is this redundant?

No - it's the missing half. Skills coaches train what you do with the puck; we train the other 59 minutes and 15 seconds. The two together are how smart, skilled players get built.
