Recording & Media Policy

What we record, and what happens to it.

Film review is the whole service, so recording is built into how we coach. This page explains plainly what gets recorded, who sees it, and how you control whether any of it is ever used publicly. Short version: the recording is for your player. Nothing goes public unless you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.

1 · What we record and why

Every live HockeyIQ4U session runs on Zoom with your player's game footage screen-shared, and the session is recorded. Async Film Reviews are recordings by definition — the deliverable is a coaching video with voice-over layered over your film.

We record because the recording is part of what you're paying for:

Because recording is required to deliver the service, agreeing to it is a condition of training with us. If a family isn't comfortable with sessions being recorded at all, we're not the right fit — and we'd rather say that up front than surprise anyone.

2 · Who can see it

By default, a session recording is seen by exactly three groups:

We do not sell recordings, share them with scouts, teams, associations, or advisors, or hand them to anyone outside that list — unless you ask us to in writing, or we're legally required to.

A note on scouts

Alex Adams is an OHL scout with the Owen Sound Attack. That role and HockeyIQ4U coaching are kept separate: enrolling with HockeyIQ4U is not a scouting pathway, and your session recordings are not used in any scouting capacity.

3 · Using clips in HockeyIQ4U content

Separately from the above, we sometimes want to use a short clip from a session — a teaching moment, a read a player nailed, a before/after — in our own content: Instagram, the website, or an ad.

This is optional, and it's off unless you turn it on. When you book, there's a checkbox to allow it. Leave it blank and we won't use anything from your sessions publicly. Tick it and you're giving HockeyIQ4U permission to use short excerpts.

If you say yes, here's what we commit to

Changing your mind

You can withdraw permission at any time, for any reason, without affecting your training in any way. Email [email protected] and we'll stop using new clips immediately and take down anything currently posted that we control. We can't always pull content that has already been reshared or downloaded by other people, which is worth knowing before you say yes.

4 · The footage you send us

Most of our players' footage comes from LiveBarn, Hudl, InStat, TPE, Pixellot, an association stream, or a phone recording from the stands. When you share a link with us, you're confirming you're allowed to share it with a coach for your player's development.

Those platforms have their own terms about redistribution, and a family's permission doesn't override them. So we treat third-party game footage as usable for coaching your player, not as ours to publish. Where we use game clips publicly, we use footage a family recorded themselves or footage that's been cleared with the association.

If we can't establish who holds the rights to a piece of footage, we don't publish it. That's a deliberate rule, not an oversight.

5 · Players under 18

Most of our players are between 13 and 20. For anyone under 18, every permission on this page must be given by a parent or legal guardian — not the player. When you complete the booking form, you're confirming you're the parent or guardian.

6 · Teams and associations

When HockeyIQ4U works with a full team, permissions run through the association or team rather than through individual parents. Most associations already have a media release on file, and we work from that. Associations can request a copy of what we hold, or ask us to delete it, at any time.

7 · Keeping and deleting recordings

Questions, or want to change something?

Email [email protected]. Tell us your player's name and what you'd like changed — permission withdrawn, a clip taken down, recordings deleted — and we'll confirm back in writing. No explanation needed and no effect on your training.
